Dear Elected Official:

I am writing to you to seek the elimination of term limits for all federal, state, county or municipal elected positions. Term limits are inappropriate and unnecessary. Requiring elected officials to run for re-election periodically is sufficient to eliminate politicians who are ineffective.

Term limits prevent me from re-electing candidates who are experienced and effective. They eliminate my right to choose my government representatives. It may take several terms for an elected official's political ability to become fully recognized, but term limits force a cycle of constantly replacing experience with inexperience. Sometimes change is good; sometimes change is unnecessary and counterproductive. I would like the right to choose whether the people need change or consistency. If a candidate has a proven track record and is working in the best interest for the citizens, I would like the right to retain that candidate even if (or especially if) he or she has already served more than a couple of terms.

I want the right to vote for the candidate that I believe will do the best job for me and my family for as long as I deem appropriate.

As my elected official, please support an amendment to existing laws governing term limits by eliminating term limits for all elected positions in New York. This issue is important to me and many of your constituents.
