I am writing to you to seek an amendment to Denver Code of Ordinance, 14-37, which pays a subpoenaed witness only $1.50 for his or her participation in court cases, but pays a Police Officer $30.00 per hour for his or her testimony in court. This is an unfair and unjust burden on witnesses.

The court system is designed to provide the best possible legal services to constituents seeking justice. To require witnesses to leave their jobs to attend a hearing under court order deserves more than $1.50 per day. Downtown parking alone costs considerably more than this! Witnesses providing their services in court cases are currently undertaking economic hardship just to participate in a system that was established to provide fairness. Witnesses should not be economically punished for their participation.

My tax dollars are used to fund the judicial system and I believe fairness in this situation is critical to the success and outcome of court cases. Please acknowledge this message and let me know your position on this matter.
