TO:Federal & State Elected Officials

Dear Elected Official:

I am writing to you to express my concern regarding the losses experienced by Enron employees as a result of the deliberate and deceptive practices by the executive management of Enron. I would like to see the pension and securities laws changed to the extent necessary to curb the abuses that occurred in that case. I know that employees do and should have the right to invest their pension funds as they see fit, and if they see fit to invest the bulk of their funds in their employer's stock, that it their choice, but employees who invest in 401(K) funds should not be disadvantaged as compared to non-employee investors and company management.

American workers depend on 401(K) and other private retirement plans to assist with securing their futures. Many are not willing to rely primarily on the social security system.

Let's tighten the financing reporting requirements and, in the meantime, let's enforce the financing reporting laws that currently exist. Corporate officers should not be able to mislead and lie to employees about corporate earnings.

If it is not presently illegal to block employees from selling their employer's stock while at the same time allowing sales by corporate executives, then it should be. I realize that blackout periods are necessary, but they should be evenhanded.

It is up to our elected officials to ensure that misleading financial reporting and discriminatory blackout practices do not happen in the future.

Violators should face sever punishment. Violations should be classified as Class 1 Felonies and violators should not be allowed to hold an executive and/or officer position in the future with any other publicly traded company, or, at a minimum, they should be required to disclose such violations in all future employer's public reports.

This issue is important to me and many of your constituents. Please protect our 401(K) and other private retirement plans and ensure that such abuses by corporate officers and executives will be curbed to the maximum extent possible.

Please acknowledge this message and let me know your position on this matter.
