Dear Elected Official:

I am writing to you to express my support for the repeal of the Wright Amendment, which currently requires Love Field in Dallas, Texas, to limit direct flights to the four contiguous states adjoining the State of Texas. It is my understanding the Wright Amendment was enacted to promote growth of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW) by inhibiting the growth of Love Field.

More than 20 years have passed since the Wright Amendment was enacted, and it is now outdated and senseless. It infringes on the rights of air carriers and passengers and actually violates the port preference clause, which prohibits Congress from favoring the ports of any state over those of another. DFW no longer needs restrictions imposed on Love Field. DFW has become an established and successful airport in its own right. Unfortunately, Love Field will remain underutilized until the Wright Amendment is repealed.

The management of noise control, pollution and other FAA regulated matters should be handled by the district FAA office in Dallas and the City of Dallas - not Congress. Local officials have a better understanding of issues and problems impacting their city. This is a common practice used in other cities that have several airports in their jurisdictions. There is no legitimate reason why local control cannot be equally effective in Dallas.

As my elected officials, I am asking you to seek a change to this situation by repealing the Wright Amendment to allow free competition by air carriers serving Love Field. Allowing this situation to continue only further hinders the progress of Love Field. The current restrictions on air service at Love Field are not in the best interest of your constituents or the airline industry. .

This issue is important to me and many of your constituents.
