Dear Elected Official:

I am writing to you to encourage you to do everything in your power to cause the FCC to rule against any merger or acquisition that would allow result in only one telecommunications provider supplying a particular transmission service in any market segment.

I understand that certain providers are currently seeking to join forces in an effort to consolidate the market, leaving some communities with only one provider for certain telecommunications services and, inevitably, higher prices.

The Modified Final Judgment (MFJ) and the Telecommunications Act of 1996 took the much needed legal steps to ensure competition and to promote advanced R & D. We have seen great strides within the telecommunications industry since more favorable laws have been enacted.

By allowing over consolidation within the market we would be turning the clock back to the days when competition was non existent in the communications industry. Rural development of enhanced telecommunications infrastructures would be jeopardized. Without choices for competition, there is no incentive to provide more or improved services to those communities.

We need state-of-the-art rapid, reliable and competitive communication services that will provide transparent and affordable services to both rural and urban areas. Please ensure that abuse of these types of transactions will not occur; otherwise the trend of consolidation leading to monopolization will continue, thereby eliminating communications access to many customers who depend on affordable service. It is up to our elected officials to ensure that the FCC will act in a cautious manner on this issue. This issue is very important to me and many of your constituents.
