I am writing to you to express my concern about the future of agriculture and the welfare of farmers. The farming industry has changed substantially over the past few decades. Family-run farms have been dwindling while large farming corporations have become the primary producers of agricultural products for consumers.

I am concerned about this trend. With fewer and larger producers, the U.S. agricultural industry could experience a lack of competition within the industry. This is fertile ground for predatory pricing designed to eliminate farmers who have depended on agricultural for generations to support their families, followed by price fixing after the small-scale farmers are driven out of business.

Open and fair competition in agriculture is necessary for a prosperous agricultural economy. Without this level playing field, consumers will be impacted by a monopoly-type market, and small farmers will be driven out of business. Food production is critically importance to both domestic and foreign markets. If this trend continues, the U.S. economy will suffer higher fixed prices for agricultural goods and increased unemployment.

Legislative action is needed to ensure protection to American farmers and enhance competition in agricultural markets. I consider the U.S. agricultural market a pillar to American success and believe it is only fair that we support this industry. I am confident this issue is important to many of your constituents. Please acknowledge this message and let me know your position on this matter.
