Dear Elected Official:

I am writing to you to express my concern regarding the overuse of antibiotics by factory farms. Many factory farms routinely mix antibiotics into the feed of pigs, cows, chickens and turkeys to speed growth and prevent disease in their unsanitary, overcrowded and stressful warehouses.

Medical doctors are well aware of and currently preaching against the overuse of antibiotics, which overuse is causing bacterial resistance and reduced effectiveness when treatment is really needed.

Factory farms are using antibiotics as an unnecessary crutch. Changing the environment of animals to a clean and healthy place would more vastly reduce any need to use antibiotics.

Such overuse of antibiotics by factory farms accounts for an estimated 70% of all antibiotics used in this country. The overuse of antibiotics is not only life threatening to the animals, but it may also have tragic effects on humans who consume meat from these factory farms.

The clean up of these factory farms is of the utmost importance to me, my family and my friends who want to be assured of the humane and decent treatment of animals, while also providing healthy food to our families. As my elected official I urge you to support Rep. Sherrod Brown's efforts in H.B. 3804, and Sen. Edward Kennedy's companion bill in the Senate, to phase out the routine feeding of antibiotics to healthy farm animals.

This issue is important to me and many of your constituents. Please protect our animals as they are an important part of our society and we need to ensure their safety and well being. They depend on us to protect them and as our elected official I hope you will take this into consideration.
